Highly flexible cooling process provides wider product range

The new heat treatment line (HTL) of Salzgitter subsidiary Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH is capable of processing more than 200,000 tons of heavy plate per year. The line is designed for a wide range of plate with thicknesses between 5 and 175 millimeters and width up to 3,550 millimeters. The materials to be processed include most challenging grades.

The X-Roll® MultiFlex-Quench as one centerpiece of the HTL provides extremely flexible rolling strategies, permitting the Ilsenburger Grobblech GmbH to produce particularly demanding heavy plate grades. The innovative cooling technology allows any cooling strategy from extremely slow cooling to quenching with freely selectable cooling-stop temperatures. Thereby a much wider product range can be handled in comparison to conventional quenches.

Further, SMS group supplied two state-of-the-art roller hearth furnaces equipped with energy-efficient heating systems and modern low NOx-burners for low emission operation.

The new X-Roll® MultiFlex-Leveler sets new standards in terms of final flatness and residual stress distribution in the material. Beside mechanical innovation, our leveling model with full range of functions is capable to handle a wide variety of flatness deviations.

The HTL is completed by the supply of a shot blaster, a primer line and a water treatment plant and the X-Pact® electrical and automation system. Powerful X-Pact process models, including the material model ensure the correct setting of the equipment and the achievement of the desired material properties. Finally, our scope of supply also included the ancillary equipment.
