Depending on your application, you can choose from two types of continuous drawing systems: conventional cam-type drawing machines and chain track drawing machines. Whether two-millimeter thin wire or anything up to formats a hundred times larger – SMS group supplies the right straightening solution for all your long products. Especially crucial for the straightness of bright steel bars are, for example, piston rods and printer feed shafts.

Our WRP B series two-roll straightening and polishing machines are designed for particularly high-tensile materials and tough specifications. Most of the adjusting and clamping operations are performed by motors or hydraulics.

That allows the machines to generate the best possible straightening results over the full bar length, within a diameter range of between 4 and 250 mm. What’s equally impressive is that these machines are so fast they achieve feed rates of up to 210 m per minute, which translates into high productivity. You also benefit from features such as quick-change systems, engineered roll contours for special materials, and recipe control for quick setup. 

The WRP E series, on the other hand, is a cost-effective solution for low to moderate tensile strength material and bar diameters of between 4 and 60 mm. A few machine parameters are set manually. You can integrate these systems into bright bar lines or as standalone units with suitable bar handling systems.

SMS group offers advanced grinding machines for bright bar finishing lines, designed to achieve high machining quality and short machining times. These machines are fully automatic, ensuring easy operation and maintenance, and they provide reliable repeatability of groove data with short start-up times for new dies. The Schleipo Series centerless grinding and polishing machines are specially designed for grinding long products, using two grinding wheels to achieve high removal rates and excellent surface roughness values. These machines feature a high degree of automation, including an automatic diameter control system with a laser-type gauge, ensuring extreme durability and long lifetime.

Predrawing involves the flexible and productive predrawing of tubes made from copper or copper alloys using the cascade principle employed by SMS. The straight-through drawing process offers improved forming conditions, minimizing tube eccentricity, achieving closer tolerances, and reducing handling between drawing stages. Depending on production requirements, cascades can be implemented as single, double, or triple-line arrangements with floating mandrels. The drawing units can be designed as conventional two-carriage drawing units or caterpillar drawing units.

Intermediate drawing utilizes spinner blocks, with over 200 machines in operation worldwide, making SMS spinner blocks a reliable solution for copper tube manufacturers. Positioned at the heart of the intermediate drawing process in tube plants, spinner blocks enable consistently high production speeds, ensuring finished product requirements are met.
