There has been an increase in maximum torques in recent years because more and more high-strength, thick tube grades are produced. This coincides with the fact that plants need to achieve a wide range of drive torques and speeds for different steel grades and strip dimensions. That's why our forte is equipping the coiler mandrel drive with a change-speed gear unit - usually with two gear stages. The gear unit and mandrel are connected by a coupling that enables rapid coiler mandrel changing.
Specific to drive units of coiler mandrels is the reversal of requirements during the coiling operation. First, at the start of coiling, very low torques are necessary at high speeds, whereas at the end of coiling high torques at low speeds are required.
