Steelmaking

The most important primary melting units and secondary metallurgical plants at a glance: From configuration through operating parameters up to the process technology, this course introduces you to important principles in the field of steelmaking. The course is rounded out with further information on steel as a material and on the subject of environmental technology.

The learning units (2 days):

  • BOF
    Components, design, position in the steelworks, treatment mode, use of crude iron, coolants (scrap and alternative coolants), presentation of various BOF processes
  • EAF
    Overview of DC/AC electric melting furnaces, EAF components, design, EAF for carbon steels and stainless, acid and heat-resistant steel grades, charge materials, products
  • Secondary metallurgy
    Overview of secondary metallurgical plants, ladle furnaces, vacuum plants (VD, VD-OB, VOD, RH, CAS–OB, etc.)
  • Special processes
    ConArc, SHARC, SEAF, PEM
  • Material steel
    Classification of steel grades:
    General structural steel grades
    Case hardening steels, nitriding steels, free-cutting steel
    Q&T steel, roller bearing steel
    Tool steel
    Stainless, acid and heat-resistant steel grades
  • Filters and environmental protection in the field of metallurgical plants technology
  • Logistics simulation
