Sinter plant, JVML (India)

For over two decades, JSW partnered with SMS to deliver five advanced sinter plants at Toranagallu, including the latest high-capacity Plant No. 5. This collaboration has helped transform the site into India’s largest steel facility, reinforcing JSW’s position as the nation’s leading steel producer.

In 2022, JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Limited (JVML) entrusted us with the development of their Sinter Plant No. 5 in Bellary, India. The project covered a licensing concept, engineering modifications, expert supervision, and the delivery of proprietary and critical equipment.

Our collaboration with JSW has been long-standing. Since the first plant contract in 2004, we have been the technology partner for all five sinter plants at the Toranagallu steel plant. JVML operates three smaller plants with production capacities ranging from 2.3 to 2.9 million tons per year (mtpy), alongside two large-scale plants, each featuring a 496 m² sinter machine and delivering 5.7 to 6 mtpy of gross sinter.

After over two decades of close and trustful cooperation, the execution of this latest project was smooth and highly effective. The Sinter Plant No. 5 has a nameplate capacity of 17,500 tons per day (tpd). The plant features a sinter machine with a width of 4 meters and a reaction area of 496 m², alongside a sinter cooler with a cooling area of 504 m².

With our successful projects we were able to play a significant role in the transformation of the Toranagallu steel plant into India's largest steel facility, positioning JSW as the nation's leading steel producer.
