SMS Concast continuous bloom caster, Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel Co.,Ltd. (China)

SMS group supplied a SMS Concast continuous bloom caster to Shijiazhuang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd. (Shigang), a member of the HBIS Group, marking the second continuous caster order within a short time frame. The order was placed within the framework of a relocation program aimed at reducing the environmental impact in Shijiazhuang, China.

Building on the successful previous orders for the relocation program, this second SMS Concast continuous caster is a traditional curved-type machine for the production of high-quality blooms. The product range includes steel grades from engineering steels and tire cord grades up to stainless steels. The caster can also be used to produce a wider portfolio of special steels. 

With three strands, the machine casts blooms with a cross-section of 410 × 530 millimeters and lengths between 5.0 and 6.1 meters.  

The SMS Concast continuous bloom caster with a radius of 16.5 meters allows operation at a high-quality level, with a wide operating window for Dynamic Mechanical Soft Reduction (DMSR). As with the first SMS Concast  continuous caster delivered under this relocation program the second order for a SMS Concast continuous bloom caster is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to produce special steels for a wide range of applications and a broad selection of alloys. 

The technological package includes an electromagnetic CONSTIR mold with final stirrers, a tandem resonance oscillator, and an adjustable air-mist secondary cooling system with seven independently controlled zones. The DMSR system comprises eleven modules per strand to ensure optimum internal bloom quality. The caster is equipped with an infrared temperature measuring system to enable online quality control of the blooms and to regulate the dynamic secondary cooling process. Laser-based length measurement and an online weighing system will further ensure accurate bloom weight. The package is completed by a water-box quenching system.
