Our finishing mill stands are equipped with CVC® plus - the world's most successful technology package for strip profile, contour, and flatness control. This explains why more than 450 hot mill stands worldwide operate with CVC® plus technology today.
Here's what this technology can do for you: The system combines axial work roll shifting with special CVC® grinding, a work roll bending system, and our powerful technological process model (Profile, Contour and Flatness Control, PCFC®). Based on the pre-calculated values for roll force, thermal crown, work roll wear and the mill stand deformation parameters, the PCFC® calculates for each strip the optimum work roll shifting position and bending force. In this way, the system adjusts the roll gap to the changing conditions resulting in extremely close strip tolerances.
Our SIEFLEX®HT gear-type spindles transmit the drive torque to the finishing mill work rolls. A new hardening process, an optimized tooth design, and a special tribo-system enormously enhanced the performance of these shafts.
As a result, SIEFLEX®HT spindles pack up to double the torque of conventional gear-type drive shafts.
To facilitate work roll shifting, SIEFLEX®HT spindles include longer internal toothings of the sleeves on the mill pinion side. They achieve shifting distances of more than +/- 200 mm and deflection angles of up to 3°.
Equally effective is the continuous oil lubrication system included in SIEFLEX®HT spindles. It thoroughly cools the spindles during operation. Plus, due to the constant oil flow, there is no need to maintain grease levels and deal with environmentally polluting grease. All this significantly extends spindle service life and reduces mill downtimes
Strip cooling is an important metallurgical process in hot strip mills. That's why SMS group systems come with high cooling rates, flexible cooling strategies, and a powerful cooling model.
To achieve a wide range of cooling rates, SMS group established different strip cooling system modules ranging from 35 to 200 m³/ (h*m²) . We combine these modules within a cooling section to offer you a money-saving solution geared to any product range.
Our X-Pact® cooling model model presets the optimum cooling strategy for each strip . It analyzes the essential physical variables such as the thermal conductivity in strip thickness direction, the transfer of heat in air and water zones, as well as the transformation behavior of the material during the cooling process. Starting from these values, the model calculates the right cooling curve every time.
Our new edge masking system features moveable edge masking shields which follow the lateral strip movement. As a result of the more equalized temperature distribution across the strip width, cold strip flatness is improved.
