Drawing lines

Decades of know-how

Throughout the history of SMS group, there have always been close links between tradition, know-how, and innovation. A milestone for the intermediate drawing process was the development of the Schumag-type cascade principle. It represents a key production advantage in the copper tube industry. That was followed some years later by the caterpillar-style drawing machine that delivers more flexibility and higher drawing speeds. Depending on our customers’ production requirements, both drawing methods continue to play an essential role in every modern tube plant.

Appropriate to the production capacity you require, the drawing units can be designed as:

  • Conventional two-carriage drawing units for final drawing speeds of up to 150 m/min
  • Caterpillar drawing units for maximum drawing speeds of 500 m/min
MaterialsNon-ferrous tubes
Operating speedup to 500 m/min
Drawing forceup to 450 kN
Typical working range∅ 3-100 mm
Capacityup to 60,000 tpy
