Ma‘aden-Alcoa Joint Venture, Saudi-Arabia

Heat and chemical treatment line for automotive grades

Contracted by Ma'aden-Alcoa to build a new continuous heat and chemical treatment line, SMS supplied all the plant components, complete with the electrical and automation systems. We were responsible for the engineering, erection, supervision, and commissioning of the line in the Ras al Khair plant in Saudi Arabia.

Included among the technical highlights of the line are the strip flotation furnace, the tension leveler, and the chem-coater. The equipment paves the way for Ma'aden-Alcoa to enter the market for aluminum car body sheets. The line features a production capacity of 60,000 tpy of annealed, cleaned, and chemically treated strip. Not so long ago, after commissioning in March 2015, the first aluminum coil was successfully treated on the new line.
