Tenaris Bay City

9 5/8“ PQF® plant for Tenaris Bay City

Leading global manufacturer and supplier of steel tubes Tenaris awarded SMS group a contract to supply a PQF® plant for its Bay City site in Texas, USA. The plant in BCO (bilateral change-over) design will be the company's first seamless tube mill in the US.

This plant in BCO (bilateral change-over) design produces seamless tubes to close tolerances. It will enable Tenaris to meet the increased demand for precise, high-strength tubes, e.g. for shale gas extraction in the USA. Included in the core components supplied by SMS are:

  • Barrel-type piercing mill with Diescher discs
  • 6-stand PQF® BCO retained mandrel mill
  • 4-stand extracting mill
  • Induction furnace for shell reheating
  • 24 stand stretch-reduction mill
  • CaliView® roll pass measurement system

Apart from the plant and construction engineering, SMS group is also responsible for supervising both erection and commissioning, plus customer training.
