Calcium carbide (CaC2)

Calcium carbide (CaC2) is the raw material for acetylene and calcium cyanimide. Today it's mainly used in the chemical industry and as a desulfurization agent in steel production.

We received significant orders from Guodian Younglight and Junzheng Energy in Inner Mongolia/China, totalling ten furnaces. They all had a common purpose: to meet Chinese demand for eco-friendly, efficient, large-scale CaC2 production lines. True to these requirements, we developed 81 MVA units with HES (hollow electrode system) for direct charging with fines. Today, Guodian Younglight operates six furnaces with a total capacity of 750,000 tpy, and Junzheng Energy runs four furnaces with a total capacity of 500,000 tpy. Downstream of the furnaces, the high-quality calcium carbide goes to the company's own chemical plant for further processing to produce PVC and other products.
