Axis Pipe and Tube orders heat treatment facility and pipe threading line
Axis Pipe and Tube, based in Houston, Texas, U. S. A., has ordered a heat treatment facility and pipe threading line from SMS Meer (www.sms-meer.com), Germany, for its Bryan works. With the two plants the company is capable of producing OCTG tubes (Oil Country Tubular Goods) used for natural gas and crude oil production. Axis Pipe and Tube is thereby extending its product range and will be able to open up new customer segments.
The heat treatment line includes a hardening and tempering furnace, a water quenching unit and a hot straightener. Axis Pipe and Tube is using the heat treatment line to produce tube grades of up to HCP110.
The pipe threading line features two threading machines which operate on the principle of stationary tool and rotating tube. A hydrostatic pipe tester with a maximum test pressure of 15,000 psi, a finishing section and all connecting transport equipment for the threading line are also supplied by SMS Meer. The tubes and pipes processed on the threading machine conform to manufacturing standards as per API 5CT.
SMS Siemag AG and SMS Meer GmbH are both companies of SMS group which, under the roof of SMS Holding GmbH, consists of a group of companies internationally active in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the steel and nonferrous metals industry.
