SMS Meer introduces innovative technologies – Perfect Arc® and PSM®
SMS Meer will be presenting innovative plant and machine engineering technologies at Tube & wire 2014, to be held in Düsseldorf, Germany, between 7 and 11 April. New ecoplants solutions such as Perfect Arc® and PSM® offer plant owners both ecological and economic benefits in their markets.
“Our plants make wire rod and tube production more efficient and more sustainable,” says Norbert Theelen, Member of the Managing Board of SMS Meer. “We are continuously developing new solutions to keep up with market demand.”
Stand B15 in Hall 7a is where SMS Meer will be presenting the company's entire range of services for tubes and pipes and wire rod. This includes seamless tube and welded tube plants, spiral pipe and large-diameter pipe plants, tube forging plants, long products and wire rod mills, bright steel machines, copper plants, heat treatment technology and services.
Many SMS Meer products carry the ecoplants mark and meet high ecological and economic standards. Perfect Arc® and PSM® have recently been included in this.
Digital welding with Perfect Arc®
PWS, part of the SMS Meer Business Area, will be presenting Perfect Arc®, a precision-controlled solution for arc and submerged arc welding for producing spiral pipes. A digitalized current source generates the “perfect arc” while at the same time using 30 to 40 per cent less energy. In spite of the high speeds of up to 12 m/min Perfect Arc® still boasts a significant reduction in product rejects and plant wear.
Innovative 3-roll PSM® technology
With PSM® (Precision Sizing Mill) technology SMS Meer can provide flexibility and process transparency in bar and wire rod production. Thanks to the 3-roll technology the rolls can also be positioned under load using hydraulic cylinders. Combined with MEERgauge®, a precision laser measuring device for cross-section measurement, PSM® can be used fully automatically and generates additional revenue of up to 10 euros per ton.
SMS Siemag AG and SMS Meer GmbH are both companies of SMS group which, under the roof of SMS Holding GmbH, consists of a group of companies internationally active in plant construction and mechanical engineering for the steel and nonferrous metals industry.
