The Data Challenge is SMS digital’s global call to data scientists and students pursuing a Master's degree in data engineering to solve a real data problem by analyzing data from a SMS customer. To put it more precisely: The task given to the data scientists is to code an algorithm from the real data sets in the software applications used. At SMS digital, too, this algorithm has a direct effect on the how current digital solutions are developed and refined. The data set has been available since mid-October. The finalists and top ten participants will be announced at the beginning of December, and the final will take place mid-December in Düsseldorf. A further highlight beside the cash prizes awaiting the top two winners is a tour of the plant at the customer’s workshop.
Throughout the two-month Data Challenge participants will have the chance to take a look behind the scenes at a software company that operates as the digital unit of a leading partner in the metals industry. It goes without saying that participants joining from Jacobs University in Bremen, University of Duisburg Essen and South Ural State University in Chelyabinsk (Russia) will also be able to discuss career options with SMS digital team members.
