Talking to career ambassador Frank Hagemuss.

As a career ambassador, Frank Hagemuss is ready to answer all your questions about starting a career in Design/Engineering.

The job: What’s it like to work in Design/Engineering at SMS group?

My tasks are very varied, and practically every day is different. I’m responsible for plant automation. The fascinating thing is that I’m not only involved in one project phase, but usually in the entire project. It all starts with supporting Sales in the quotation phase and ends with final approval at the customer’s site. Apart from design engineering on the computer, I also compile electrical specifications and naturally cooperate closely with other departments. Because our plants are very complex, we can only achieve the best results with great teamwork. And when you see the product of all your work finished and ready to go in the workshop, it’s a very special moment.

Career: Why did I choose SMS group?

I was always interested in SMS group. That’s no wonder, because it’s the market leader in my field. But that wasn’t the only reason. As an engineer I want to achieve something with my expertise and ideas. I can do that at SMS group. The company encourages independent, responsible work. In concrete terms, it means that, as an electrical engineer, I have responsibility for my own area. With real influence on the finished product. And that makes me proud.
