Talking to career ambassador Lars Bossdorf.

As a career ambassador, Lars Bossdorf is ready to answer all your questions about the Development / Technology department.

The job: What’s it like to work in the Development / Technology department at SMS group?

As a technology specialist, I’m responsible for the design of tube and pipe welding systems. My job involves calculating rolling forces, designing rolls, drawing up calibration regulations, and other tasks. I also support commissioning projects. Recently I helped commission one of the world’s biggest ERW tube welding plants. Travel is a big part of the job. I spend about half my working time abroad. So it’s good that the company really looks after us. They take care of travel arrangements, accommodation, and overtime benefits. My favorite ways to switch off are skiing, jogging, and surfing. SMS allows me time for my hobbies.

Career: Why did I choose SMS group?

SMS is an extremely solid company. Down to earth, but always on a growth trajectory. I liked how everybody here was open and honest. Even in my job interview, when we were talking about assignments abroad. The impression I got then still holds up today. My boss is always absolutely straight with me, so I know where I am. And of course it’s a big company that offers me interesting prospects. Like I always say: You feel like you’re in a family company, but with the advantages of a global enterprise.
