CIS / RussiaRegional HQs
The history of SMS group in Russia and CIS roots back to 1932 when the first rolling mills were supplied to the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK). Since then, the company implemented in the region such highlight projects as PL/TCM at MMK, plate mill “MKS 5000” at OMK, large diameter pipe works “Vysota 239” at Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant, “Rossiyanka” blast furnace at NLMK and many more.
In 2021, all entities of SMS group and Paul Wurth in Russia & CIS merged into SMS group LLC with the regional headquarter in Moscow (Russia) and a central service hub in Chelyabinsk (Russia). The newly established SMS group LLC employs the total of ca. 1700 employees, serving almost 100 customers across the entire region.
The service business in Russia was founded in 2008 and runs operative branches / offices in Lipetsk, Aktobe (Kazakhstan), Vyksa and separate legal service companies in Magnitogorsk and Miory in Belarus. A highlight of the service activities is the technical outsourcing, where SMS group provides the full service for complete production units of a customer. Take for example the off-line maintenance for nine slab casters and of the secondary metallurgy area at NLMK in Russia or operation of the roll grinding shop of the tinplate complex of MMPZ in Belarus.
SMS group LLC unites the following production facilities:
- a service workshop in Chelyabinsk makes it possible to carry out repairs and maintenance works of different components locally in-land.
- a joint venture Paul Wurth Kovrov with the focus on project management, engineering and manufacturing of hydraulic, electric and automation systems for steelworks.
- Paul Wurth Metallurgical Service LLC in Kaluga offering an extensive range of services, from spares to the repair of components of blast furnaces, coke batteries and sintering plants.
