Already the nineth iron ore agglomeration plant SMS has designed for JSW

Pellet Plant 2 at JSW Dolvi in Maharashtra, India, is one of the world’s largest iron ore pelletizing facilities, featuring an 816 m² induration furnace and an annual capacity of 6.85 million metric tons. The project highlights advanced pelletizing technology and marks a key milestone in India’s steel industry development, representing a longstanding partnership between JSW and SMS.

Pellet Plant 2 at JSW Dolvi, located in Maharashtra, India, is among the largest iron ore pelletizing facilities globally and represents a significant milestone in the development of India’s steelmaking infrastructure. The project was initiated under a contract signed in 2018, which covered engineering, supply of key equipment, and supervisory services for construction and commissioning. The plant is equipped with an induration furnace of 816 m²—the first of this size in India—enabling a nominal annual production capacity of 6.85 million metric tons of iron ore pellets (design capacity 8 Mtpy).

The plant design incorporates advanced pelletizing technology to ensure high thermal efficiency, product consistency, and operational reliability. The large induration furnace allows for efficient heat transfer and uniform pellet hardening, supporting the production of high-quality pellets for the blast furnaces. 

The successful execution of Pellet Plant 2 builds on a longstanding partnership with JSW, which began with the delivery of the first sinter plant for the Toranagallu steelworks in 2004. Since then, the collaboration has included five additional sinter plants for the Toranagallu and Dolvi sites, as well as all three pelletizing plants for JSW. This continuous cooperation has supported JSW’s rapid growth and technological advancement, contributing to its position as India’s largest steel producer.

Pellet Plant 2 at Dolvi exemplifies the application of large-scale pelletizing technology in the Indian context, demonstrating the capability to deliver high-capacity, reliable, and efficient iron ore agglomeration solutions in line with the evolving needs of the steel industry.
