Concast history

  • 1954: Founding of Concast. Concast was founded in 1954 by Irving Rossi and Dr. Heinrich Tanner with the aim was to launch the new continuous casting technology on the European market. This earned Rossi his place in history: he was the first person to transfer the casting process from non-ferrous metals to steel. Plant operators were thus able to achieve considerably better productivity than before – a revolution in the steel industry in the middle of the 20th century. 
  • 1965: Schloemann becomes shareholder of Concast AG
  • 1973: SMS Schloemann-Siemag AG becomes main shareholde of Concast. Concast specializes in casters for billets and long products
  • 1990: Birth of Convex-Technology. It enables to reach higher casting speeds than the competition
  • 2004: SMS becomes 100% shareholder of Concast
  • 2014: Biggest continuously cast round steel bloom. The new three-strand caster for big blooms of up to 1,000 mm diameter by SMS Concast sets a mile stone in steel production history.
