World’s first Continuous Tandem Cold Mill (CTCM) in 18-HS design
Posco’s mill was the world's first tandem mill to have all stands equipped with 18-HS roll sets. Posco uses the CTCM to produce AISI 300 and 400 series stainless steel strip. High reductions per rolling pass ensure extremely cost-effective production of 500,000 tons per year.
Ever since 2009, POSCO has been operating a 4-stand Continuous Tandem Cold Mill (CTCM) supplied by SMS group. It was the world's first tandem mill to have all stands equipped with 18-HS roll sets. Posco uses the CTCM to produce AISI 300 and 400 series stainless steel strip. High reductions per rolling pass ensure extremely cost-effective production of 500,000 tons per year.
Right from the get-go, our customer was fully satisfied with the CTCM. It's a major advantage that the mill can process a second run with hard material. Work-roll changing takes less than two minutes per roll set. A further highlight is the continuous paper feed in the exit section. This is a carousel-type automatic paper dispenser that eliminates the need to interrupt the process for wrapping. Our customer is also delighted with the Rotary Inspect inline inspection system. - Servohydraulic roll-gap control (AGC)
- HS shifting for the work rolls

- Mathematical model for presetting all rolling parameters
