High-end rolling technology for sophisticated products

SMS group supplied a cold rolling mill, a heat treatment line, a high bay storage, and a packaging line to AMAG rolling GmbH, an aluminum producer located in Ranshofen, Austria. The cold rolling mill is one of the world’s most modern and productive single-stand mills.

It processes an extremely large product range from soft to ultra-strong aluminum grades – a major challenge for any plant. That’s why we implemented CVC® plus and further proven actuators as well as other of our technology innovations in the 6-high cold rolling mill, such as inductive work roll barrel heating. This compact solution ensures that the work rolls are heated precisely. As a result, it consumes only a fraction of the energy needed by a conventional Hot Edge Spray system (HES). Another highlight is the Extended Bending System (EBS), engineered by SMS group for even better control of low rolling forces. Furthermore, there are fast changing devices for the work and intermediate rolls as well as for the sleeves that ensure high productivity. The scope of supply included the entry-side coil preparation station and the exit-side inspection station for fast and reliable inspection of both sides of the strip. We also supplied a Multi-Plate® filter unit, an Oildist system, and the Airwash™ system – specially designed for efficient and sustainable production.
