This project, which started in November 2024, involved the replacement of major components within a tight six-week time frame, highlighting SMS group's expertise in spare parts management and service excellence. Key components replaced included a 16-ton plunger, the plunger shaft and two mandrel plug displacement cylinders. Displacement cylinders were manufactured with the highest precision and quality according to the specifications of the press. In addition, the main cylinder housing underwent a mechanical overhaul.
Beyond these major replacements, various other components of the press were inspected and mechanically processed at the SMS group workshop in Mönchengladbach. This comprehensive approach ensured that all aspects of the press were addressed, enhancing its operational efficiency and longevity.
Otto Fuchs contributed to the project by supplying additional components, including a new pressure plate and a moving crosshead from SMS. The excellent cooperation of the project participants from Otto Fuchs with six qualified SMS technicians ensured an uncomplicated project process in a two-shift system. This collaboration exemplifies the strong partnership between Otto Fuchs and SMS group, aimed at maintaining high-performance standards and operational reliability of the extrusion press.
